Found a Friend

As I was walking to a great shooting location, Lake Dimmick, I stumbled upon a beautiful farm and a friendly horse (whose name I can only assume is Buttercup). I wasn't going to approach the beautiful animal, but it came right up to the fence and looked like it wanted some loving. "Buttercup" was a gentle giant, and kept nudging me so I would pet him more!

My friend Sarah snapped this photo of me petting the horse.

Capturing the Moon

Have you been noticing how bright the moon has been lately? That's because it is a super moon! On June 23rd, the moon was as close to the earth as it will be all year, which resulted in the moon looking super bright and big!

Here are my attempts to shoot this super moon:

First attempt:

This photo is just plain bad. It just looks like a bright light with no definition at all.

Second attempt:

A lot better! There is definition and no blurriness. I cranked up the exposure time to 1/100, instead of the previous 1/30 for my first attempt. This is a nice improvement, but the moon is still a little too bright in my second attempt.

Third attempt:

With the exposure time up to 1/640, the moon has even more definition, yet it is a little too dark and the spacing is off.

Fourth Attempt:

Finally! I'm happy with the way this photo turned out. Since this is the first time I've ever tried to photograph the moon, it took me a while to figure out the right settings, but after several attempts, I think I got it!
